Orange Ribbon - JOY's cultural diversity and awareness show

We are often asked why the name “Orange Ribbon”. The Orange Ribbon multicultural program was initially conceived and presented on JOY from July, 1998. The two initial presenters were Kim Benton (New Zealander) and (now Dr.) Shanton Chang (Malaysian Chinese.) In 1998 Shanton, who was then active in overseas student politics here in Australia, came up with the suggestion. Because of his involvement with the Overseas Students Union, he was aware that it was a symbol used by Flinders University that year for their multicultural week, held at the height of the Pauline Hanson infamy. In 1999 more universities picked up the idea, and continued with the "orange ribbon" theme. Around the same time the Australian Immigration Dept. (then known as DIMIA…) started to support a “living in Harmony” program aimed at supporting multiculturalism, and fostering cultural diversity throughout Australia. By the early 2000’s this eventually evolved to become what we now know as National National Harmony Day, which is held in March each year. And the symbol now used to promote Harmony Day is… the Orange Ribbon.

Kaz
Kaz is an avid supporter of local and international independent women's music, and brings to you each Saturday a collection of songs from an array of musical genres. You'll hear a little bit of the blues, country, folk, pop, rock and even a wee smidgeon of jazz

Most weeks Kaz brings in a guest for a chat and a live song. In the past these have included Liz Stringer, Cyndi Boste, Kavisha Mazzella, Milk, Jen Cloher and Ruthie Foster

There is always a spotlight on an international artist, with three songs and a short bio. These have included Patty Griffin, Laura Viers, The Dresden Dolls, Nicole Atkins and Martha Wainwright

With a commitment to bring at least one new artist to the play list each week, she's forever on the internet searching for great music to bring to Joy listeners

Wherever possible Kaz asks her guests to bring in a cd to give away to a lucky Joy member, so it's always worth your while tuning in!

Mr. Stoj
House Arrest

Friday Night is your night for pumped up house tunes with Mr Stoj.

Melbourne based DJ Mr Stoj began his musical career in 2002 whilst living in London and in 2003 he formed Mecca @ The Public Office. The party which eventually spanned a successful three years, went on to showcase some of the best house music around at that time.

Since the halcyon days of Mecca, Mr Stoj has made his mark by playing what he knows best, Uplifting pumping house. From rolling baselines to organic percussion, with amazing vocals the choices he makes to move the floor have earned him a reputation as a mover and shaker. This sound and style is what brought Mr Stoj to GOSSIP at the Love Machine's dancefloor where he was asked to spin the peak session set from 11pm to 2am.

Since his Love Machine premier, Mr Stoj has risen to prominence, becoming a permanent DJ resident at Spice Market as well as playing at other large events such as Sensation NYE, Rawhide, Hedonistic, Purr, Betterdays, Liveoneday, LoveGaze (Sydney).

What can you expect to hear during House Arrest? The show begins with uplifting house, followed by a few club classics. The second half of the show checks out whats going on in the ARIA charts, followed a few tracks by Stoj's producer/artist of the week. The show finishes off with Stoj's weapons of mass distraction all in the name of getting you in the mood for the weekend!
