In Kind Donation

Wish List

JOY 94.9 must continually invest in new and upgraded studio, IT and broadcast transmission equipment. The station only has access to limited funds and depends on the generosity of its members and friends to fund some of the more costly items of expenditure. Some donate cash; others donate services, labour and professional services; or working IT or broadcasting components.

Key areas of expenditure for funds or in-kind service donations include:

  • maintenance of existing broadcasting technology
  • replacement of aging studio equipment
  • upgrading of broadcast facilities as technology advances
  • upgrading of supporting IT facilities  (servers, digital storage medium, software, etc.)
  • replacement of existing land-line connection to our transmitter with radio-link facilities
  • training for new IT applications
  • preparation for digital broadcasting
  • support of corporate business systems
JOY relies on your support to survive. By your donation, you can help us to ensure that JOY continues to provide a diverse range of relevant programs, arts and culture, music, and news that connects, informs and entertains our community. Studio 1 and 3 (Main Broadcast Studios)

Timeframe: July 2012

The replacement of aging equipment in the two main broadcasting studios allows you to continue enjoying the very best of JOY programming. Having well serviced CD players and high quality telephone lines means we can bring you a great mix of music and news & current affairs programs. The station uses heavy-grade industry machines, yet no matter how good they are with the high level of spins around the clock they need to be updated every 2-4 years.

  • Two D-Cart Players - $7500 (D-Cart systems are used in each studio to play out all sponsorship, community service announcements and station ID's, our current units are 6 years old)

Studio 4 (Production Studio)

Timeframe: December 2012

The production studio is the where the station's many sponsorship announcements and community service announcements (CSA) are produced by our in-house team. The CSA program run by JOY is one of the strongest in the community broadcasting sector with more than 60 different community, social and support groups in the GLBTIQ and non-profit sector being supported with free on air announcements at any one time. With more than 14,000 CSA's being put to air each year this little studio certainly pulls its own weight!

  • Production desk (design, materials, carpentry and fitting) - $5000

Major Equipment and Works

Timeframe: End 2013

The station is currently loaning and renting a variety of equipment to enable broadcasting on a day to day basis. Whilst the station strives to find the best deal for each piece of equipment, nothing could be better than owning our own gear. In some cases if the initial outlay for the purchase could be met, there are substantial monthly costs savings. In other cases we have had to put off the purchase of required equipment due to the expenditure required.

  • Wireless in-ear Monitoring System - $1000
  • The Music Team are currently working with the IT & Engineering Teams to find a solution to find storage for an ever increasing music library - Mass storage and playout systems for a digitised music library - $45,000

General Station Requirements

Timeframe: During 2012

General studio requirements include miscellaneous works that will put the final touches on our broadcast studios.

  • Full Station Test and Tag - $5000
  • First Aid Kit in metal, wall-mountable cabinet - $350
  • Platform Trolley for transport of Outside Broadcast equipment - $500
  • Refrigerator for use by volunteers - $750
